Introduction
A legacy of excellence in medical education
Founded in 1814, Kazan State Medical University has built more than 90 years of medical education and research. It began with a single faculty, General Medicine, and today has five faculties and 81 departments covering medicine, paediatrics, dentistry, preventive medicine and pharmacy. As of November 2023 it taught 15,112 students, 5,207 of them international, drawn from 60 countries.
The university began as a small medical institute in Kazan and has since trained more than 60,000 doctors and pharmacists. It is ranked 11th among the top 15 medical universities in the BRICS pilot rankings, and is described as the top regional medical university in Russia.

Kazan is the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, a city of more than 1.2 million people covering some 708 km² on the border of Europe and Asia. It is one of Russia's major educational and cultural centres, and is regarded as safe and student-friendly.
The main campus sits in central Kazan, with Kazan International Airport roughly 20 km away. The city is served by buses, trams, trolleybuses and taxis, so getting around is straightforward.

Academic and research excellence
The university runs five main faculties — General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Preventive Medicine — alongside a Medical College, and runs 77 residency and 46 postgraduate programmes. More than 2,000 residents and PhD students train here, and around 7,000 physicians a year take continuing medical education courses.
Established research schools cover surgery, oncology, urology, cardiology and morphology.

Kazan State Medical University NMC approved along with WHO, and it is also listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. The degree availed is recognised in over 120 nations around the world. The graduates can take the FMGE or NExT in India, the USMLE in the United States, and the PLAB in the United Kingdom. NMC states that 54 months of education, 12 months of internship, English-language education, clinical rotation and teaching of listed subjects by NMC make a university NMC-approved.
